The file belongs to you, not to us.
If a lender or a landlord runs a check on you, this page is what you are entitled to. It is short on purpose, and none of it is buried in a contract.
To be asked first
Nothing is released without your yes. Every request shows the requester’s name, their location and the purpose they gave, and it expires in fifteen minutes if you do nothing.
To see who looked
Your enquiry history lists every check ever run against your file, who ran it, when, at what depth, and under what stated purpose.
To decline without penalty
A decline is not recorded as an adverse event and does not affect your score. The requester is not charged and is told only that you declined.
To freeze your file
Freeze it and no new request can even reach you. Unfreeze when you are ready. Freezing is free and there is no limit on how often you do it.
To dispute an entry
Raise a dispute on anything in the file. The case runs investigate, correct, re-file and notify, and you can see where it sits at each stage.
To have access close
Whatever you approve is scoped to what you agreed and closes after thirty days on its own. Nothing is resold, and nothing is kept beyond the audit record.
What a requester sees
Only what you ticked.
Approving a check is not a blanket yes. The request names a depth, and the depth decides what is legible. A soft check cannot see your balances or your transaction behaviour, whatever the requester would prefer.
How a check worksThen it expires on its own
No score effect either
Yours to read, any time
If you are being checked
- Someone asked for my Credit ID. Should I give it?
- A Credit ID on its own does nothing. It cannot be used to read your file, it only lets someone send you a request, which you then approve or decline. Nothing moves without your yes.
- Can I see who has checked me?
- Yes. Your enquiry history lists every check with the requester, the date, the depth and the purpose they stated.
- What if a check was run that I did not approve?
- It cannot happen through Verify. Consent is the gate. If something looks wrong in your enquiry history, dispute it and write to [email protected].
- Does declining hurt me?
- No. Declines are not adverse events, they do not touch your score, and the requester is told only that you declined.
